Current British and American Painters and Artists

Susan Mitchell, Scottish Watercolour Artist and Etcher

Susan Mitchell's work

Susan is a superb Scottish artist who concentrates on creating wonderful scenes of birds and beasts found in the Scottish Farmyard.

Examples of the subjects she paints include Ostriches, Guinea Fowl, Geese, Ducks and Hens. Although these are not everyone's idea of the typical Scottish bird, they are more common up here than you may imagine!

To see some of her work, check out these Guinea Fowl at one of the sites she displays on. Her work can also be found in a number of galleries in and around the Edinburgh and Peebles' areas, as well as at local agricultural and craft shows (and on my walls!).

More examples of her work can be found on the Cornfield Gallery website - look for her in the exhibiting artists list or under etchings!

I also found another fan of Susan's at this web site!

Enjoy!

Alan Glasby MBE, British Bird Carver and Sculptor

Alan Glasby's work

Alan is the person who introduced me to the art of the Bird Carver. With a strong American influence, his work covers both bird carvings and cast bronzes.

His work has included a large number of the common game birds such as partridge, along with the snipe, woodcock and waders he so obviously loves.

To see some of his work, check out this Goshawk which is also on the cornfield gallery. This is I think my favourite bronze to date.

Scottish Artist Mike Turpie

Mike is a very talented artist who works in oil paints, oil pastels and monochrome. His subjects are normally landscapes, both urban and rural, and are often worked in bold, vibrant colours.

American Artist Helen Honer

Helen has done some brilliant work, and living in California she works with strong light and shadows. I especially like the landscape with dead trees, Sierra Trees near Green Lake but she also paints dogs, cats and barbecues (all things she is passionate about I suspect!).

I was introduced to Helen Honer via a mutual friend, and pestered her until she agreed to put some of her work on the cornfield gallery. As a result we often email each other, mostly me asking about her weather - it is always warmer and drier!
